The Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Town of Hortonia Public Hearing is regarding an amendment to the Town of Hortonia comprehensive plan, updating the 20-yr Future Land Use map used to guide planning and zoning decisions in the Township.

Town Officials use this map, labeled "20-YEAR FUTURE LAND USE" in the heading and "REVISED: 03/15/10" in the legend, to guide planning, zoning, development and related actions. This map updates and replaces the map found in the Comprehensive Plan document.

The Town of Hortonia held a Public Hearing on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 to receive public comment on an updated 20-Year Future Land Use Map.

A revised [rev 1] 20-year Future Land Use (FLU) map was entered as testimony at the Public Hearing by the Town of Hortonia in response to a January 6, 2010 letter from City of New London Mayor, Gary Henke, requesting his written comment be entered as evidence [Exhibit #1] regarding an amendment to the Town of Hortonia comprehensive plan, updating the 20-yr FLU map.

The Town Board adopted the Ordinance amending the Comprehensive Plan with the revised, updated map on 2/9/2010 [rev 1 - previously posted on this web page]. This map was revised by Omnni on 2/17/2010 [rev 2 - previously posted on this web page] and again on 3/15/2010 [rev 3 - currently posted on this web page] to correct mapping errors noted by the County. These corrections were of a clerical nature to express the intended FLU mapping, resulting from the Public Hearing and exhibits entered as evidence at the Public Hearing.

All landowners in Hortoina Township are welcome to download and review the 20-yr FLU map and provide comment at any time. Town Officials ask that you circle the map (or find some other, clear way to identify the part of the map in question) and mail your comments along with hightlighted map to the Clerk. The Clerk will forward your proposed adjustments to the FLU map to the Plan Commission who will take them under advisement when the next map revision takes place.

Note: No updates / changes to the map's future land use designations can be made without a prior Public Hearing which requires a prior 30-day notice.

Map of the Black Otter Lake District

If you live in the S.E. corner of the Town of Hortonia (ie. Section 1 and Section 2) you may be part of the Black Otter Lake District. Founded in 1973 to help restore and protect the man-made, 75 acre lake, the district levies tax to pay for its initiatives. The goal of the Black Otter Lake District is to significantly improve the lake quality status in keeping with the Lake Plan of February, 2007 and Comprehensive Lake Plan of 2008 and to involve and inform the public.

Lane choice is critical
Example: Two-lane roundabout

Driving a roundabout with two or more lanes
Observe and obey the signs and arrows to determine which lane to use before entering a roundabout.

Black and white signs on the side of the road and white arrows on the road will show the correct lane to use.
To make a left turn, be in the left lane or other lanes that are signed and marked as left turn lanes.
To make a right right lane or other lanes that are signed and marked as right turn lanes.
To go straight, observe the signs and arrows to see what lane is correct.

Steps for driving a roundabout:

Slow down. Obey traffic signs.
Yield to pedestrians and bicyclists.
Yield to traffic on your left already in the roundabout.
Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in traffic.
Keep your speed low within the roundabout and stay in your lane.
As you approach your exit, turn on your right turn signal.
Yield to pedestrians and bicycles as you exit.

2009 School District Map for Hortonia Township - shows #610 HASD (Hortonville Area School District) and #271 New London School District boundaries in Hortonia. This map is provided for informational use only. Anyone seeking definitive information needs to check the tax assessment roll or their tax bill to see whether Hortonville (tax code #2583) or New London (tax code #3955) is specified in the 'taxing jurisdiction'. Just because a resident's mail-stop is Hortonville, doesn't mean they are in the HASD, and conversely, just because someone's mail-stop is New London, doesn't mean their district is New London. Finally, it's possible to send your children to a school outside your district, however, be advised that the school portion of your taxes are sent to the school specified by your taxing jurisdiction, and, you can only vote on school issues for the school in your specified taxing jurisdiction. So, for example, if your kids attend Hortonville, but your taxing jurisdiction is New London, then you can not vote on Hortonville school's referendums, but, you can vote on New London's.

Town of Hortonia 2010 Fire-Number Map of the Township

This map shows the locations of fire-number signs in the Town of Hortonia.

These are not the locations of mailboxes, and the actual location of the residence or business may be out of view from the fire-number sign, at the end of a private driveway. Be advised that the Town of Hortonia is currently in the process of procuring new, highly reflective fire-number signs to replace the old ones. We hope to have all the fire numbers replaced by late Spring of 2011.
